Roger Is One Of My Favorite Vendors

Meet Roger, he has been one of my best vendors of the most unusual items and multiples of items, if I ask for scissors, I get 30 pairs. Roger goes to auctions to buy his stash, usually I can find more than I was asking for by just browsing through his building.

Here's a peek at some of things I got from my last visit, 9 buckets, 3 black and white signs, 10 oil cans, a shoe stay, brown bottles, tan letters, pulleys and more....

Roger lives in an old school house, it was Rose Hill, District 67, he and his wife renovated the school and have made it their home.

It's an old stucco school...

I asked for kerosene lamps holders, and I get 8 of them!!!

Scissors..... and wa la... 30 pairs.....

Here is a peek into the back of the building where he keeps all his treasures. I always find more than I came for......

Pulleys and oil cans......

License plates, 78 records, garden tools and brown bottles.....

Can't wait to get busy cleaning and creating!

Some of My Favorite Things Got Married Today

Recently I decided to get in gear and use some things I had around the shop for months and had intentions of creating some projects out of them, this is what I came up with.....

An old tractor seat and a lamp base. great for holding your mail, magazines, or maybe some fruit on the kitchen counter.....

Two old glass lamp shades and metal from old lamps......

Love the details in the old metal pieces.....

This pile of old wood pieces, I put d-rings on the back so they could be hung, will make a great vintage collage on a wall.....

Two more pieces made from glass lamps shades and metal........

Two pieces of glass, one from a table lamp and one from a light fixture.....

Love the patina of this old piece of metal from a kerosene lamp bracket.....

So the next time you see parts and pieces, think of what you could create!!

Summer Days At The Fair

Meet the Steffen family, Paula and her family are very dear friends of mine and this past week we spent a day working on some 4-H decorations for the stalls the dairy cattle would be shown in during the Cedar County Fair. The requirements were that the decor had to be something old, something you had at home, you couldn't BUY anything to use in your design, sooooo Paula knew just where she could find the old, rusty, extremely used junk to design this stall...

The recipe for the design was 4 milk cans, one with chalkboard paint, one garden gate, some gardeners burlap reused from graduation, 7 spindles, one broken headboard, swing set chain, old water faucets and door knobs, sand, chalk, some old rusty stars, stencils, we already had, some left over paint, and leftover chalkboard paint.

This is John and Paula with the four kids in the Steffen family that showed cattle. They own and operate "Steffview Dairy" at Hartington, Nebraska.

These were the stars of the show... John spends more time with these guys than he does his family, he gets up at 4 a.m. to start milking 300 cows, and then starts again at 4 p.m. for the evening milking. Dairy farming is not for the faint hearted.

This is some of the rest of the Steffen family, it's a family affair when it comes to the fair.

This is the youngest of the Steffen family, Keaten and Jordon, Keaton won a purple ribbon in the open class!

Here is the milk can creation, didn't it turn our adorable! Check out the spindles with the faucets and knobs. Very appropriate for a dairy cow!

Check out all the trophies, this is something to be proud of.....

This is the cool sign we made out of the broken headboard and swing set chain, I think the cows were admiring it....

Two boys on a fence.......... Keaton and Triston

Here is Keaton checking out the other kids washing their calves, a perfect end to a perfect day.

If your ever in the area come on over and check out the dairy, John will be happy to give you a tour, and probably feed you too, well, he will offer to feed you and Paula will do the cooking,
tell em Cammie sent you.

The Rest of The Story... Wendall's Junkyard

Yesterday I went to Iowa to look at some things I guy had advertised on Craig's list, it turned out not to be so great but, I was in the neighborhood of one of my favorite places to junk, so I decided to take a chance and see if Wendall was home.

He has the most beautiful willow tree at the corner of his driveway as you enter his place.

Meet Wendall, he has been in the salvage business for over 30 years now. When I arrived he was in the process of changing a tire on his tractor, as you can see it is not a very clean job but he let me take his picture anyway.....

While he changed his tire I wondered around the junkyard looking for treasure, the first thing I found was this great turq colored Ford van, now I bet that thing was a hoot in its hay day!~

An old blacksmith's grinding stone, gotta love those things, just think of the labor that went into operating one of these...

Tires, tires, tires..... anyone got a good re purpose for these, there is any size you can imagine....

Check out these great springs, got have all of those......

Wire fence, always comes in handy.....

Oh la la, look at these cool old fans covers, won't they make great baskets, light fixtures or maybe just wall art.....

These look a little dangerous, spiky, poky, and heavy....

License plates.... can always use those......

Now put on your thinking caps cause Wendall has the corner on the market when it comes to hubcaps, Hummmmm, got to think of something to make out of these.....

Love the color on this old Econline van truck, wouldn't that be fun to tool around in while junking?

Love this old door......

this is one of Wendall's prized pocessions, it's a 1950's stub nose truck, I have never even seen one of these, when you see it in person it's pretty amazing!

Wendall's barn blew down in a storm so he salvaged the wood from it, I can really use some of this, hurrah!!!

Wheels everywhere.......

A pile of some of my stash.....

Steel Wheels, boy are they heavy.....

Disk Spacers, these have a little red paint on them, got throw them in my pile!

Some of his collection, he collects tractors and Gleaners, I think they are big old combines, kind of like the dinosaurs......

More tractors......

A great old windmill tower, wouldn't that be cute with things displayed off of it?

Are we glad the tread on our tires doesn't look like this now? Kind of like the texture though....
Cool old station wagon, load up the fam and off you go for a picnic.......

And last but not least, my favorite purchase of the day, this absolutely, positively, worn-out old door off of this pickup, now isn't that just the cutest thing you ever seen? I'm bringing it to the Bonanza, so stop by and see it in person, it's so much better live!

That wraps up my junkyard shopping, that should hold me over for a few days anyway.
