A New Life For Sam's Bed......

This is my friend Sam, I met her at a flea market near Fremont a few years back. I was drawn to her booth by the cool things she was selling, we got to talking and she said her house had recently burned down, she had lost all the things that were special to her, all her prized possessions. She was just trying to get back in the swing of things and do some flea markets and start over again after her huge loss. Several years went by, I would visit her booth at Finders Keepers to buy from it occasionally. Last August she contacted, said she was kind of getting out of the business and had some things she wanted to get rid of, I went down to her house to see what she had.
This was the partial trailer full we bought from her, we were not done loading yet in this photo. Remember the cool pinball machine I had at the Bonanza last year? I got that from Sam. One of the other things we bought was this old iron bed. As you can see from the photo above, it had been through the fire and was all black. It was hard for her to part with but she said she would let met have it, it was time to move on and let go of it.

We took it and had it sandblasted so it looked like this.......

Then we took it to a place that does powder coating, it then took on it's second life!

This is it's new home now! It's at the Bachman's Spring Ideas House in Minneapolis, now it's a staple in the little girls ballerina room. This ones for you Sam, one of your prized possessions is now alive and living, heading to someone else's home for it's new life, it's second life.

Saving The Past... Again... Look What We Found!!

It's an age old story these days.... this place is about to see it's last days on this earth.... it is scheduled to be bull dozed in.... so my son called another junking emergency today. My husband and I made our way over to the place to see what could be salvaged....

This is the original house to the farmstead, there is another newer two story square house on this acreage also, it too will be getting torn down. The house in the background is a two room house, no bathroom or running water.....

The lone birdbath in the yard, which will be coming home with me......

Here I am peeking into the door of the old house....

Here is what I saw... lots of stuff everywhere....

some cool old table legs....

There was a little loft so I volunteered my husbands services to see what was up there, no varmints, just some old fruit crates....

This is the back of the house, it is in a little bit of disrepair but we did find some treasures there...

Next building, a cute shaped old chicken coop. You always find some great things in these....

Galvanized chicken nester, check out the tiny little wooden chicken feeder, wouldn't that be cute with some flowers growing in it....

Chicken waterer lids, gotta have those!

Nice old oval washtub, which I found in the little wash house shed.....

We decided to take a walk in the grove, looked like there were a few things scattered over the years throughout the trees, and we were right! Look at these nice old cream cans. They are shorter and fatter, cute size......

Windmill blades, always LOVE, LOVE those!!

Next was the the old grease house shed, I sent the husband in here first too. Found some things we wanted .....

And some we didn't.... we left this one alone.....

Probably sat on that shelf for 60 years, earlier we found a calender hanging in the old house, it was dated 1957......

We found Harry Baker's wood tote, made many moons ago, saved and will end up in someones house as a cool little wood tote......

The old wells were covered with these old cast iron lids, love those, but darn are they heavy!

A water pump..........by the well.....

This one brought tears to my eyes, this was the cupola off the old barn, he was a little bit damaged beyond saving......

Found this in the grove on the ground......

Next building..... the BIG old red chicken house!!

Peek! Another nice old galvanized chicken nester and.......

a calf bucket, love these, they have a hook so you can hang them on a fence, gotta get that.....

A Warner chicken nester.... in the same building~

Now this was a little harder to get to but when I spotted the super duper coolest crinkely wire, I had to have it.....

This is an old chicken cage but as you can see it has a BIG old tree laying on the top of it... not to worry......

When you have connections with a handy little skid loader to move that tree for you......

and wala, it's been removed from my project!!!! We did have to spend another hour disassembling it to get to the cool wire panels, but we got them!

A bunch of old oil cans, look at the great old graphics.......

Now here are few photos of our load, one of the loads......

Another view, check out those cool old wire screens and the seed sorting screens......

A double wash tub and several wagons, trikes and bikes, all good for something, wheels, metal seats, and more....

Here is the BIG load, all going to the scrap iron.

We went to the mini mart when we got loaded for something to eat, time had went by so fast that it was already 3 p.m., which also happens to be coffee time for the area men, as we were listening to them gossip one of the guys asked his friend, "Hey, Jerry is that your truck full of garbage.", he said no my truck is around the corner, that isn't my garbage." The hubby and I just looked at each other and started to laugh. What are they talking about, this is some of the greatest junk ever, oh well, better they don't know how good of junk it really is, more for me!~~~

Flea Market Style Is At Master's Hand Candle Co. and Serendipity Candy Factory

I went out yesterday to start distributing the new Flea Market Style magazine to some of the shop owners awaiting the arrival.....

One of my stops was at Master's Hand Candle Co. and Serendipity Candy Factory. There is a real success story behind this....

Meet Nicole and Susie, they are a mother/daughter team that has built Master's Hand Candle Co. from the kitchen up, literally speaking, Susie was a stay at home mom who started making candles out of her kitchen, then the basement, until finally they grew out of their space and purchased the building they now reside in for the past 2 1/2 years.

They use to make 70 candles a day out of their home, now they make around 30,000 candles a year!! Most of the business they do is through schools and churches that sell the candles as a fund raiser, so if you are looking for a fund raiser, here it is folks.....

Susie and Nicole were quite happy to be getting some of the Flea Market Style magazines for their rapidly growing business......

They also carry some fun bling.......

Purses of all shapes, sizes, and colors......

Some great home decor........

And their new addition of Serendipity Candy Factory... look at the beautiful candies and we even got some samples..... delicious!!!

The bridge ladies were in the shop, now this is a serious group of bridge players, nothing distracts them from their game!!

They are located just south of Tekamah just off of Hwy 75, their hours are M-F 9 - 5:30, Sat 9 - 12, phone number is 402-374-2003. So if you are traveling through Tekamah, Nebraska make sure and stop to see Susie and Nicole, tell'em Cammie sent you. You will feel right at home with warm smiles, fabulous sweets, a killer cup of hot cocoa or cappuccino, and don't forget to pick up a copy of the great new Flea Market Style magazine chocked full of great decorating ideas!
