Now This Is American Picking!!!

My son is in the logging business and the scrap iron business, the other day he called and said you better get over here, this place is loaded with things you will love. Soooo, I headed to South Dakota with the truck.

The crew, Justin (my son), myself, and Ron (Justin's hired help).....

Ron looking through the broken glass on the skid loader, a branch broke it out....

The load on the truck that went home with me, garden gates, steel wheels, wire racks and more.....

Here is some more, galvanized buckets, cream cans, swirly roof toppers......

Funnels, planters plates, chicken feeders, and more....

One of the buildings that we went in to rescue some great things....

Another building that was full of doo dad's, mail boxes, hooks and misc.....

A cool piece off of an old piece of machinery....

Justin tying down his load....

A poor old windmill head.....

the crew taking a look at the load.....

Now that is a load!! That is American picking if I ever saw it! We had a fun day of picking through the junk, I got some great things, now off to the cleaning department!

Bachman's Spring Ideas House...... Wowzer!!

Last Wednesday two friends of mine and myself took off for Minneapolis to get a look at Bachman's Spring Ideas House at the Lyndale Avenue location.

Meet Paula and Cheri, both of whom love junking, but probably not as die hard a junker as myself, but they hung in there for two days of junking, shopping, and a few stops up and back.

The first thing you see when you enter the porch was this great bench made out of three old chairs, they even stenciled the word "SIT" on the back of each of the chairs....

The centerpiece of the dining room table was a mix of old milk glass vases, industrial light covers, and a mix of fresh flowers with a few taper candles in some of the vases.....

The master bedroom was a very natural look with many items being natural wood tones....

The dresser was painted a metallic dark bronze finish, it was spectacular!

Cast iron stove pipes grates made into mirrors.....

Wanda the mannequin and an old tobacco drying basket on the wall....

The master bed with old shutters for the headboard and milk can side tables with glass on top...

The sweetest bench made out of an old Jenny Linn bed in the girls bedroom....

A toy box made out of an old galvanized window well, who would a thought....

A garden gate made into a place to display your pictures and notes....

And then the headboard, made out of Vera Bradley bulletin boards, one little girl was in the room when I was in there and all she could say was, " Can I take it home with me?"

This old screen door gets a new life as a bulletin board, there are even grooves where the spring that would pull the door shut use to rub on it.

These were ladders made into shelves for the craft room, they once held up people now they hold up craft room supplies.

This is one of my favorites, this is an old oil cloth rack now used as a wrapping paper and ribbon station along with a porch pole with the old funnels for containing all those other items.

The boys baseball room was simply amazing, I felt like I need to break out singing "Take me out to the ball game." the headboard was made of old wooden bats.....

The wire mesh grate made you feel as if you were standing in the dugout.....

The beverage crate night stand was a great touch...

Locker baskets for containing gloves and balls...

A grouping of 9 shadow boxes was one of the most striking displays in the house....

They each had a African violet in each box which was planted in a vintage tea cup, but that wasn't all, check out the table beneath the boxes made out of old bed springs, now that is innovation.....

An old postal sorting table gone to wine storage and serving area in the living room....

The focal point of the living room....

This was the most beautiful birdbath I have ever seen in my life, it stands alone, but did not need anything else sharing the spotlight...

The Ideas House was more than anyone could have expected, it is well worth the trip so if you can, go see it in person, it's even better in person than in these photos, and besides there many more ideas that even I didn't get on my blog.
Here are a list of other blogs you can go to and see more photos of the Ideas House:

It will be open April 14 - 18 and May 12, after that the house gets a whole new look and the Summer Ideas Hosue opens June 3rd - June 13. You can buy your tickets in the Bachman's store at Lyndale. I have no doubt you will throughly enjoy it! Have fun!

It Was A Good Day For Junking!!

We made a trip to Lincoln, Nebraska to go to the Girls State Basketball Tournament in the beginning of March so we had to check out some junking places, Tiede's was one the places we revisited, it was well worth the trip!

This is the entry way as you enter the store, wowzer!~

It is one the most organized shops of junk I have possibily ever been in......

Everything is not only organized but it is also sorted by color, I loved it~

All the green glass, all in one place....

David and Jackson entertained themselves in the books, which happens to be half of the store, Beulah has a annual book sale every April.....

Set of dishes all in one place......

Beulah and I going through things for pricing....

Loved this old hanging scale, probably from an old grocery store.....

A shot of some of my purchases, the new mannaquin has beed named Wanda, after a fellow junking friend.

Meet Carl and Beulah, they own Tiede's Secondhand and Antiques. They are only open on Saturdays, they collect all week long and open for business every Saturday.

The final job, loading all the treasures, it was well worth the trip, we will definitely go back to shop again!

A Feast For the Eyes..... Bachman's.....Vintage.....Fab!!

I'm Back!!! I know I have been bad about posting to my blog lately but believe me I have a good excuse. I was sworn to secrecy previously to this but am able to break the silence now.... soooooo.... where have I been hiding....? BACHMAN'S!!!! I too, as has Margo, have been working for Bachman's, helping them find goods for the new look for their retail stores in the Minneapolis area.

Check out this great old turq cupboard, saved from an old back porch, can you believe someone didn't want this?

Here is another find, an old iron bed, again saved from a sure fate of being lost forever. It's last home was an old abandoned school house that hadn't had school in for 50 years. Now it will go to some one's home to become alive again!

Old silverware made into hooks for your home, these were once a prized possession of some one's, maybe a wedding gift, now you can have a little piece of history as part of your home...

Farmsytle, this is a fantastic section of the store, it's really a must see.

City is another great look, the theatre seats came out an old local theatre 50 years ago, went into storage until the call was received that they would like to get rid of them. Of course, myself and a friend of mine were more than happy to take them off of their hands.

The mix of old with the new is virtually flawless, Larry, Ki and the team did a fantastic job of setting the store up.

The Euro look is one of my favorites, although it really is hard to say one is better than another, it has some great architectural pieces, some great repurposed items, and a fresh new look that I adore.

Soooo, go on now, get your booty moving and get on out to Bachman's at Lyndale, Eden Prairie and soon to be Plymouth stores and check out the great new vintage look they are selling, I know you will find something you can't live without! You can also go over to Margo's blog to get more on the skinny about Bachman's.

If you can't get there or live to far away, maybe your should plan a trip to the cities and check it out, for all you fellow Nebraskans, the Nebraska UNL girls basketball team will be playing in Minneapolis Sunday at 6:00p.m. Maybe take in both?

Keep posted to the blog, I will be sharing some of the junking trips I arranged for Larry and Ki to shop the tri-state area, as well as some of my recent junking trips and finds, see ya soon.
