Snow, Snow Go Away

Here is the scene I woke up to this morning. I see all of you talking about spring, pictures of your flowers popping up, things starting to bloom, and here is what we are still looking at... global warming???? how about ice age....

The chicks and ducks are in but it still to cold to take them home.

Here is my photos of flowers popping up, these are tulips!

The bushes .......

the barn......
Here is the main street of Tekamah, Nebraska. This is where my sister lives, we went home for the weekend for a family birthday party.

Jack cleaning off the cars......

The light pole outside the house, I really love this picture with the snow showing up in the photo.

Birds, you better give it a few more weeks before coming to this house.

The snow blew from the north, people living in the country will be without power at least two - three days. It was very heavy, wet snow.

If you are where it is green and turning into spring, ENJOY!~ Until our snow melts we will just wait for spring to spring here.

Holy Trinity Rummage Sale

It's time for the rummage sales to start in Nebraska! Holy Trinity has their bi-annual rummage sale every spring and fall in Hartington, Nebraska. I forgot all about until I drove by and saw the sign and of course I had to make an immediate right turn!! People were already lined up and ready to go, so all I could do was head towards the door.

This is the old Skylon Ballroom that was moved into town from about 10 miles away from town, now it is the site of many kinds of gatherings from weddings, dances, auction, roller skating, and rummage sales.

Check out the shape of the building, it's kind of unusual.

This was the first thing I saw when I entered the building, a cool old dress form, I headed start towards it, but it was already sold. Darn, missed that one.

Meet Judy and Denelda, they are some of the driving forces behind the rummage sale. If you have questions about antique items, Judy is the go to gal.

A pile of chalkboards.

This is made entirely from old cans, wow, that looks like lots of work, but it's kind of pretty?

These old tray's were only 50 cents each, there were 8 of them and they are in excellent shape. Gotta have those!

This is made of old magazine pages, I have been seeing lots of things popping up made out of old cards, magazine, and discarded paper items. Oh, just 25 cents.

I looked at these, this is old strapping for the old style of lawn chairs, what could these be used for? Colors are kind of fun ...... maybe straps on a garden tote?

Negotiations? Bargaining ? Looks serious....

These are old meat grinders, kind of an unusual group of three, the one is in mint condition, maybe a centerpiece for flowers? Got these, $1...
Maybe a project for later....

Tons and tons of smalls......

Corner on the market for milk glass vases, got any ideas for these?

These are one of my most favorite purchases. Won't these be great for clipping pictures? 49 of them in the box!

Linens linens, and more linens. Picked up a few if these.

More stuff and shoppers.........

Here's the grinder, let me know if you think of any great repurpose ideas!

Bookends made of stone with a cactus and man in sombrero, maybe headed to the Bonanza for the Junk Corral?

Oh, and guess who I ran into at the rummage sale, Dorothy and Jo, from Randolph, Nebraska. They are some of Ki's followers at Junk Revolution. They wanted to know if the Bonanza was happening again this year, and of course it is. They said they would be there and tell Ki hello! So .... Ki... Hello from Jo and Dorothy!

It was a good day of rummage sale shopping, got lots more things, they may be showing up on the "Garage Sale Sunday" sale. Check it out on Sunday! Have a good weekend.

Daffadowndilly's - The Shop --

I thought you may be interested in getting a peek inside of the Daffadowndilly's shop. My shop is open by appointment only, the population of the town it is in is 600.

The building use to be an old Farmers Union. The building to the east of me use to be connected to mine by a doorway, but has since been closed. The building to the east was the creamery and the building I'm in was the dried goods part of the Farmers Union.

I originally got this building so I had a place to store things as they were starting to take over every empty space in my home, including my chicken house! There were no chickens in it but there was alot of great junk.

Welcome, to the shop. There is alot of really cool junk in here!

This is from the back of the shop, you can hardly see to the front!

More junk .........
and more ..........
Chippy, garden, summer stuff......
Clocks ............
More things................
Frogs .................
More junk.................
The east side of the shop..............
Restaurant dishes .....................
Kitchen stuff ...................
More restaurant dishes.................
Empty frames ........
White stuff and skis..................

Hardware..........

Globes .........

That gives you an idea of how much great stuff I have in Daffadowndilly's. Someday I'll take you into the back room or as we call it the "ruff" room. You might have to bring your hip waders though.

Let me know if you see anything you may need.

Hunting For Sheds????

I know your saying that doesn't look like a shed, you know the kind you keep your excess junk, and all those treasures that haven't found a place in your home yet. This is a different kind of "shed".

A couple of days ago my son, grandson and I went shed hunting. Sheds are the antlers that fall off of the deer every spring. We spent an afternoon and found about six sheds. It's kind of like mushroom hunting, you have to train your eye to see them, so it's kind of like a treasure hunt.
Look at the texture of the antlers. It even kind of looks like a morel. There is a guy who carves these to look like mushrooms and if you didn't know, it would be hard to tell until you picked it up!

Here is a couple of sheds, these are not a pair but did come from two different deer. You would call this one a 4 x 5 deer if they came from the same deer because there are four points on one side and five points on the other side.

Another close up, the deer will shed their antlers every spring and by fall they have grown back and will have another spike by fall time. You do have to get out and search right away because the rodents will start eating them for the minerals. Some of the antlers we found already had tiny little teeth marks on them.

We went down to the Missouri River area to hunt, the deer are just thick in this area.
It was a hard day of shed hunting. All he needed was a sucker, a ride in the car and it was lights out!
